Importance of communication

Communication is a process wherein there is a sender and a receiver. It goes like this: sender transmitting information to a receiver.Importance of communication

Communicating is different from talking. Why? Simply because talking is just merely uttering words without listening. For instance, you are saying something to your brother and he is not paying attention to what you are verbalizing. That’s talking.

Moreover, communicating involves both talking and listening. You talk and the person you’re speaking with listens intently. Makes sense right? Each day, we get to communicate with people related to us like our families and friends and converse with those who have something to do with our education or business. It’s just like breathing, we can’t live without it. See how vital it is?

In the business world, communication transpires in every transaction. It is impossible to close a sales deal without it. For example, a buyer goes to a cam shop. Upon entering the store, he sees the seller and tells him that he needs a canon nexus digital camera with a 16GB memory card, black, with extra battery. The seller just looks at him and at the same time talks over the phone. Do you think he will get all the details of the item the customer is saying to him? Of course not since he is not attentively listening to what is being shared with him. This is a conventional shop selling scenario.

Let’s go online shopping this time.  A buyer browses the web and found a certain product like Louis vuitton bag batignolles and orders. The seller, upon checking the filled out order form, immediately starts processing the order without going back to the customer to confirm the style or design and size of the bag (if the bag ordered is a PM or a GM and if it’s a DAMIER or CLASSIC CANVAS). If you were the buyer, do you think you will receive the exact kind of the item you ordered? Let’s just mention that you failed to write down the details of your chosen bag due to your excitement and got busy the whole week. Here comes the delivery day and upon opening of the shipped/mailed product, you were surprised by the feature of it. That’s not the one you paid for. (note: the brand names stated above are for illustration purposes only. No promotional intentions)

You may be blaming the seller for being incompetent as far as selling skills is concerned, but try to analyze also the shortcoming of the buyer.  The circumstance given is a reminder for both the seller and the buyer that when we, whether w e are a buyer or a seller have to communicate keenly so as to avoid conflicts or misunderstanding.

If you are the buyer, then state all the particulars of the product you are ordering. Likewise, double check if you have written/typed the correct information of your credit card or personal check and notice the complete address where you want that particular merchandise to be delivered.

However, if you are the seller, take note of this. Once you already received a purchase order, verify on all the details such as size, color, style or design and all the important information of the ordered item. Make sure also that the credit card details written are complete. If you have concerns regarding the customer’s order, then contact him right away. This will assure you of a great sales flow and will avoid delays.

So even if you’re the buyer or the seller, make sure that you’ll be responsible enough with your communication.

So what are you waiting for now? Happy shopping and selling everyone!
